ScienceLogic: Geographic Maps PowerPack Release Notes, version 100

Version 100 of the "ScienceLogic: Geographic Maps" PowerPack provides foundational tools to support the onboarding and analysis of geographic location data for monitored devices. This PowerPack enables you to associate location metadata with devices and visualize that data using geographic maps, supporting usage analysis and helping inform decisions for future map-related enhancements.

For complete information about Geographic Maps, including prerequisites and detailed usage instructions, see the "Geographic Maps" chapter in the Maps manual.

  • Minimum Required Platform Version: xxx and AP2 Mochi version 8.26.4-45

The minimum requirement for the "ScienceLogic: Geographic Maps" PowerPack is a combination of Skylar One version 12.3.1 and AP2 Mochi version 8.26.4-45. Alternatively, you can upgrade to Skylar One version 12.5.1, as AP2 Mochi is pinned to that release by default. The minimum supported platform version for AP2 Mochi is Skylar One 12.3.0 or later.

Before You Install or Upgrade

Ensure that you are running version xxx or later of Skylar One before installing the "xxxPowerPack.

For details on upgrading Skylar One, see the relevant Skylar One Platform Release Notes.

Installation and Upgrade Process

By default, installing a new version of a PowerPack will overwrite all content in that PowerPack that has already been installed on the target system. You can use the Enable Selective PowerPack Field Protection setting in the Behavior Settings page (System > Settings > Behavior) to prevent the new version of the PowerPack from overwriting local changes for some commonly customized fields.

If you are currently using the Dynamic Applications in this PowerPack to monitor devices, collection errors might occur for one or two polling cycles during the installation of a new version. To prevent collection errors during an upgrade, you can optionally disable collection for monitored devices before performing the following steps and re-enable collection after the upgrade.

To install this PowerPack:

  1. Search for and download the PowerPack from the PowerPacks page at the ScienceLogic Support Center (Skylar One > PowerPacks).
  2. In Skylar One (formerly SL1), go to the PowerPacks page (System > Manage > PowerPacks).
  3. Click the Actions menu and choose Import PowerPack. The Import PowerPack modal appears.
  4. Click Browse and navigate to the PowerPack file from step 1.
  5. Select the PowerPack file and click Import. The PowerPack Installer modal displays a list of the PowerPack contents.
  6. Click Install. The PowerPack is added to the PowerPack Manager page.

Features

This release includes the following features:

  • A "Extract Location Data - Devices" report which is used to export a spreadsheet containing user-selected devices and a predefined set of location-related columns.
  • The exported spreadsheet serves as the authoritative template for entering or updating device location information such as geographic identifiers and coordinates. These columns are aligned with the schema required by the Geographic Maps framework. After population, the spreadsheet data can be uploaded into the ScienceLogic platform using an externally provided script. That script is not included as part of this PowerPack. For complete details on supported fields, data requirements, and geographic map behavior, see the "Geographic Maps" chapter in the Maps manual.

  • A "Geographic Maps Usage" Dynamic Application to align with the primary Database Server if you are on-premises, or a virtual IP address if you are on a SaaS Skylar One deployment. Aligning will assist ScienceLogic with implementing future updates. For more information, refer to the "Geographic Maps" chapter in the Maps manual.
